Middlebury Police Reports: The Animal Edition
From June 30 to July 4, Middlebury police handled seven situations pertaining to furry friends, from squirrels to skunks.

Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel
On Saturday, June 30, a Yale Avenue resident reported a bat in the house. Shortly thereafter, the bat was reported as being out of the house.

Neighbor's Dog Draws Concern
A Kelly Road resident contacted the on Sunday, July 1, regarding a neighbor's dog being tied up all day. Police conducted a welfare check of the home. It is unknown what the findings of the welfare check were.

Dog Left at Longmeadow Park
A woman came to the police station at approximately 9:48 a.m. Monday, July 2, with a brown, poodle mix dog that appeared to be in bad health. The dog was reportedly found on Longmeadow Road by Longmeadow Pond and taken to Mattatuck Animal Hospital.
Police stated the dog would likely be euthanized due to the condition the dog was in.
A 'Squirrely' Situation
An Allerton Farms resident reported a black squirrel that entered the house via the chimney on Monday, June 2.
Lifeline traps were set to help catch the squirrel but at 7:14 p.m., the squirrel ran out of a trap. Police said the homeowner was not hurt but was upset. The traps were then reset.
But at 8:22 a.m. the next day, the resident contact police again reporting more than one squirrel in the chimney and none in the traps. Police advised the traps be reset.
Skunk Carcass Found
A resident of 27 Yale Avenue found a skunk carcass in the yard, sometime during the evening of Monday, July 2. There was no blood around, police reported, and the skunk was removed.
Found Pigeon
On Monday, July 2, Lou Perugini of 31 Upper Whittemore Rd. reported a pigeon that had been in his yard for two days.
Police said Perugini has the number and will try to contact the owner.
To Catch a Woodchuck
On the 4th of July, at approximately 6:06 p.m., a trap was set somewhere on Porter Avenue, to catch a woodchuck.
