Middlebury, Woodbury Weather: Black Ice; Subzero Temperatures Close Out This Week

A potentially significant storm is on the horizon but specifics are undetermined at this point, forecasters say.

Black ice and temperatures well below freezing are what we will see if venturing out the night of Thursday, Feb. 5, according to the National Weather Service. Friday morning will be a cold morning for commuters and early risers.

The NWS released a hazardous weather outlook with the following information:

  • Patchy black ice is possible as temperatures quickly decrease following an arctic front
  • Wind chill values will range from 0 to -5 late Thursday into Friday morning
  • Periods of snow are possible Saturday night into Tuesday
  • The potential exists for a total of eight inches or more of snow

As of Thursday night, Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said the forecast for Sunday and Monday is challenging.

“Several chances for snow but I wouldn’t be surprised if the bulk of it held off until Monday,” he said via Facebook. “At this point all we can really say is ‘stay tuned’ — we should know much more tomorrow.”

Patch will update the weather forecast for the weekend and start of the week as more information becomes available.
