Middlebury's Budget Vote Was Close

The annual referendum was held Wednesday.

MIDDLEBURY, CT - Town residents Wednesday approved Middlebury's $31.9 million budget for 2016-17, but the vote was close.

According to unofficial results from the Town Clerk's office, 382 residents voted in favor of the spending plan while 336 opposed it.

A total of $21.5 million of the plan goes for its half of the Region 15 education budget, and the remaining $10.4 million will be used to run the town.

The $31.9 million total represents a 3 percent increase in property taxes, writes the Waterbury Republican-American's Bill Bittar.
