Middlebury's Halloween House Gets Grander Every Year
The Hitt family decorates their Three Mile Hill Road yard every year, with a giant spider, singing pumpkins and a spooky speakeasy.
The Hitt house on Halloween is the place to be. Every year, the 533 Three Mile Hill Rd. home in Middlebury plays host to goblins and ghouls — and that doesn’t even include the trick-or-treaters!
For the past 38 years, Dan Hitt and his family decorated his childhood home in Ridgefield and now, his Middlebury home. They’ve amassed quite the collection of spooky stuff and love to share it with others.
The giant spider makes her steadfast appearance this year and the singing pumpkins’ are serenading the trick-or-treaters again.

This year, the speakeasy underwent a renovation of sorts and more witches paid the Halloween House a visit. Ghosts fly back and forth across the yard and skeletons roast marshmallows by a fire pit.
The love of Halloween isn’t the only reason why the Hitt family decorates. They also like to give back and are collecting items and monetary donations for the Middlebury Food Bank.
