Minds in Motion Returns to Shepaug in February: Enriching Fun for Everyone

An afternoon of fun, creative, enriching activities for kids, parents and educators too.

This time of year, kids are stir-crazy and parents are anxious to keep their minds and bodies active. The answer? Shepaug Valley School will host Minds in Motion™ Shepaug on Saturday, February 25 from 12:00-4:00. Co-presented by Region 12 and Connecticut Association for the Gifted (CAG), this event is a fun-filled learning adventure for all children in Kindergarten through Grade 8, their parents and educators. Last years’ event drew nearly 200 attendees from all around the region and even more are expected this year. And, while this event is just one day, many of the presenters and exhibitors offer enriching activities for kids all year long.

At a cost of $15, children can select two different workshops and parents, caregivers and educators are welcome to attend at no cost. This year, children attending Minds in Motionâ„¢ Shepaug can choose from more than 15 workshops with topics that include cooking, circus arts, dance, painting, parkour, drumming, LEGO engineering, video production, and more.

A keynote and a selection of sessions are offered for adults that provide strategies to enhance learning, promote creativity and resilience, and help raise asset-strong youth. This year’s Minds in Motion™ Shepaug features a keynote address from Lawrence J. Cohen, Ph.D., author of Playful Parenting and The Opposite of Worry—along with other books on child-related topics. Dr. Cohen, a licensed psychologist specializing in children's play and play therapy, will provide actionable insights into connecting, building confidence, and resolving problems through play.
