Motorcycle Accident in Middlebury Friday Afternoon

Helmet saves rider from more serious injuries.

Middlebury police were dispatched to a motorcycle accident in front of 470 Park Road Extension in Middlebury just after 3 p.m. Friday.

The operator, James Ciarlo, 51, was riding a 2011 Husqvarna Motorcycle westbound on Park Road Ext. when he came upon a mail truck doing deliveries, Ciarlo went to pass and saw an oncoming vehicle and was forced to swerve back to the right to avoid a head on collision. Ciarlo swerved to the right of the mail truck to avoid a rear end collision and struck a rock and wooden fence.

Ciarlo was transported to Waterbury Hospital with a non life threatening injuries by Campion Ambulance. Ciarlo was wearing a helmet, which most likely prevented serious injuries, according to police.

Ciarlo was given a verbal warning for Failure to Drive Right.
