New Happenings @ Good News Café

The owners of the award-winning Good News Café celebrate 25 years on Main Street this year, and this month will open their new bar, dining area and expanded outdoor patio as part of the anniversary celebrations.

When most people would be looking to retire after more than a quarter-century in the restaurant business, Carole Peck and Bernard Jarrier say their best is yet to come.

Renovations on the landmark Main Street business started in mid-April and has remained open during the work.

Along with a new four-sided custom-made bar, topped in heavy gage copper, the expansion project includes new lighting, colorful decor and a much larger outdoor café area accessed by two sets of French doors.

The new additions are set to open on May 10 for a soft opening at 6 p.m.

“We thought it was time for some change and improvements and what better way to celebrate 25 great years,” Peck said. “For us, Good News is not only a business, it’s our life and part of the community and we thought this would be a wonderful way to show our appreciation.”

Peck and Jarrier’s popular restaurant opened in 1993 and quickly garnering a reputation for excellent farm-to-table fare and unique dishes.

Along with the great food like longtime favorites -- Lots of Lobster Adult Mac & Cheese, Jack’s Pecan Crusted Oysters, and Grilled Salmon and Corncake -- Good News is also an art gallery and displays work from artists from all over the state and region.

Regular patrons are already trying to pick their favorite spot at the new bar.

"I think it is a great idea and a great looking design," said Tom Storey, a Woodbury resident and frequent patron. "You come to Good News not only for the great food, and people, but also the colorful surroundings and the new look is perfect.”
