Obituary: Charles M. Squire

Charles M. Squire was active in Roxbury and a former stock car driver at the Danbury Race Arena.

 

Charles M. Squire, 79, of South Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011. He was the husband of Doris (Jones) Squire.

Squire was born May 26, 1932, son of the late Clayton B. and Frances (Carlson) Squire.

A lifelong resident of Roxbury, he worked at Barden’s Ball Bearings for 19 years and was the owner of Roxbury Tool Company for more than 50 years. He was an active member of the Roxbury Congregational Church, where he had served as a deacon.

A well-known fixture in the community, he believed in old-fashioned values and was always there to lend a hand and help a neighbor.

He volunteered and served the town of Roxbury in many capacities, as former selectman, as a Boy Scout leader and as a Little League coach.

He was active in the Republican Town Committee. He was a member of the PTA and a former President of the PTO.

Squire was an avid race car fan. He was a former stock car driver at the Danbury Race Arena, where he had worked in the pit crew for many years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons: Clayton Russell Squire of New York City and Colin Timothy Squire of Cuyhoga Falls, Ohio; three daughters: Cheryl Christine Garnett of Washington, Maine, Carol Squire Kallstrom of Kent and Constance Squire Hunter of Roxbury; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Horace Squire, and three sisters: Harriet Buckingham, Doris Squire and Barbara Johnson.

Calling Hours: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St., Woodbury.

Services:  A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at the Roxbury Congregational Church, 24 Church St., Roxbury.

A reception at the Roxbury Congregational Church Hall will follow the burial.
