Obituary: Donald W. Terrell, 82, of Woodbury

Donald W. Terrell was a beekeeper and enjoyed woodworking, gardening and working on tractors.


Donald W. Terrell, 82, resident of Woodbury and formerly of Pomfret, died Sunday, January 15, 2012, with his family at his side after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was the husband of Lucille (Grisgraber) Terrell.

Terrell was born March 16, 1929 in Waterbury, son of the late Howard and Grace (Brewer) Terrell of Woodbury. He was educated in Woodbury schools.

Terrell was a PFC serving in the Army, stationed in Georgia and France. Prior to his retirement in 1982, Donald was employed by Southern New England Telephone as a foreman and the Woodbury Telephone Company.

He loved working outdoors. As a beekeeper, his honey business was named Honey Comb Hill. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and working on tractors. There was nothing he could not fix.

Terrell volunteered as a scoutmaster in Pomfret, was a member of A.F. and A.M., and a member of the Pomperaug Grange in Southbury.

He was a member of the , where he served as a deacon and a member of the Board of trustees.

Besides his wife of 62 years, he leaves three sons: Donald W. Terrell, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Waterbury, Brian P. Terrell and his wife Sue of New Milford, and Gary E. Terrell and his wife Elizabeth of Barrington, R.I.; three daughters: Sandra L. Glowa and her husband George of Southington, Elaine S. Knudsen of Salem, W.Va., and Shirley J. Robinson and her husband Kevin of Woodbury; three sisters: Edie Willenbrock of Ala., Esther Townsend and Barbara Parker of Connecticut; a brother, Robert Terrell of Fla.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Terrell's family would like to thank the staff of in Southbury for the care they shared with him and his family. The family gave a special thanks to Terrell's wonderful roommate, Frank Cappani, who always kept a caring and watchful eye out for Terrell.
