Obituary: E. Lee King, 85, Of Woodbury

E. Lee King passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 23, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn (Barnes) King. Lee was born in Southbury on November 12, 1931 to Sereno and Ruth (Johnson) King.
At the age of three he moved to the land that he lovingly farmed for the remainder of his life. Lee proudly served his community as a life member of the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a leader of the Oxbury 4-H Riding Club, was actively involved with the Litchfield County 4-H, and a member of the CT Milk Producers Association.

Lee and Evelyn had the pleasure of traveling the United States and abroad with CT Dairy Tours. Beyond his life of farming he also delivered oil for C. L. Adams, Metcalf Oil and F & S Fuel, was dog warden for the Town of Woodbury, and drove wrecker for Don Heavens Chevrolet. He had great stories to tell about all of these endeavors.
Lee was known for his ever present smile and his willingness to help anybody. Lee is also survived by his four children; Cynthia King of Canterbury, Sandra (Daniel) O’Neil, Edward King Jr. (Laurene) and David (Deirdre) King all of Woodbury. He leaves nine grandchildren; Bill King of Pomfret, Nathan O’Neil, with whom he shared his love of farming, Ben O’Neil of Burbank, CA and Maggie O’Neil of Philadelphia, PA, Carrie, Andrew and Lizzy King, Joe Simpson and Fred King all of Woodbury. He was predeceased by his grandson, Eddie Lee King III. Lee was one of eleven children and he is survived by his brother, Willard King and his sister, Ruth Boisvert.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 30, at 10 a.m. at North Congregational Church in Woodbury. Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 27, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury. Evelyn would like his friends to wear bright colors, especially shades of blue.
