Obituary: George H. “Bud” Spencer Jr., 91, Formerly of Woodbury

George had a lifelong passion for gardening and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his family and friends.

George H. “Bud” Spencer Jr., 91, passed away peacefully on November 14 at home in Roxbury CT, surrounded by his family. Born in Montclair NJ, he was the son of the late George Sr. and Dorothy Spencer. He was pre-deceased by his brother Bill Spencer. Prior to Roxbury, George lived in Woodbury and Greenwich.

He graduated from University of Connecticut, and attended Cornell Law and Columbia University. He spent his career in finance, and started the Automated Flower Co. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, obtaining the rank of sergeant.

George had a lifelong passion for gardening and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his family and friends, who benefited from his delicious harvests and beautiful cut flowers.

George is survived by his beloved wife Barbara Spencer, whom he loved to travel with in their retirement. He also leaves behind his children D.D. Spencer, Gail Spencer and George Spencer III, and grandchildren Jonathan Katz and Paige Spencer.

Funeral services will be held on Monday November 19 at 11:00 AM at Christ Church, 1 North Street, Roxbury CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Church, P.O. Box 4, Roxbury CT 06783.
