Obituary: John R. Guerrera, 87, of Middlebury

John R. Guerrera served in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge as a medic.

 

John R. Guerrera, 87, of Middlebury, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at his home. He was the husband of Nancy (Stella) Guerrera.

Guerrera was born February 7, 1924 in Oakville, a son of the late Gregorio and Philomena (Orsini) Guerrera. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II. He served in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge as a medic.

Guerrera was a member of the VFW Post 5154 in Watertown, the Quaker Farms Radio Control Flyers and a board member of the AARP Middlebury chapter.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Guerrera was a talented craftsman and mechanic and enjoyed tinkering, building model airplanes and working on cars.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by his three daughters: Joan Delaney of New York; Jean Hackenson of New Hampshire and Jane Cyr of Middlebury; eight grandchildren, three nieces and a nephew.

He was predeceased by a brother, George Guerrera.

Visitation: Noon Monday, Dec. 26.

Funeral Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26 at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St., Woodbury.

Burial: Private.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Guerrera's memory to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5022 Wallingford, CT 06492.

Cemetery: Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown.
