Obituary: Mario “Mayo” Abate, 95, Long-Time Restaurant Owner
He was the former owner of Mayo's Restaurant and Mayo's Fireside Cafe in Middlebury for 33 years.

Naugatuck, CT Mario “Mayo” Abate, 95, husband of the late Lillian (Urashka) Abate, died peacefully on December 7, 2018 at Glendale Center.
Mayo was born on August 5, 1923 in Ansonia, CT a son of the late Vincent and Anna (Guarcello) Abate and had lived in Naugatuck since 1943. He was the former owner of Mayo’s Restaurant and Mayo’s Fireside Cafe in Middlebury for 33 years and he also worked in the footwear division at Uniroyal for 21 years, during which time he served as vice-president of Local 45, U.R.W. Mayo was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd and 4th Degree, the Waterbury Club and the Exchange Club of Waterbury. He enjoyed golfing and working out at the Naugatuck Y.M.C.A.

He is survived by his sons, Gregory Abate wife Karen of Las Vegas, NV and Ronald Abate wife Denise of Naugatuck; his 5 grandchildren, Jason Abate wife Paula, Ryan Abate wife Sarah, Kelli Lyons husband Joe, Kris Abate wife Carla, and Jessica Abate; many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mayo was predeceased by his 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He was the heart and soul of our family and he will be greatly missed.
