Nancy M. Cappello, Ph.D.

“Founder of ‘Are You Dense?’ ”

Woodbury, CT - Mrs. Nancy (Marcucci) Cappello, 66, of Woodbury, CT entered the gates of heaven after a strong and courageous battle with MDS cancer on Thursday, November 15,2018. She was the loving wife of Joseph J. Cappello.

Nancy was born in Waterbury on October 30, 1952, daughter of Antoinette (Llorens) Marcucci of Watertown and the late Stephen A. Marcucci. She was a graduate of Watertown High School, Central Connecticut State University and received her Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. She retired from the State of CT as Special Education Bureau Chief. She was the founder of Are You Dense, Inc., and Are You Dense Advocacy Inc., a breast cancer non-profits spearheading legislation which is bringing awareness to the high risk of breast cancer for those with dense breast tissue. To date there are 36 state laws mandating breast density disclosure; CT being the first in the Country. Dr. Cappello has spoken all over the world mandating change to the status quo.

Besides her mother Antoinette and husband Joe, Nancy leaves behind to cherish her memory her siblings; Angela Boratko of Torrington, Mark Marcucci of Waterbury and Stephen Marcucci of Washington Depot as well as several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements: A funeral service will be held Monday, November 19, 2018, 10 AM at the First Assembly of God Church, 1245 Thomaston Ave., Waterbury. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, 1 – 4 PM at Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.
