Obituary: Raymond R. Steinfeld, Jr.

Woodbury resident Raymond R. Steinfeld, Jr. was a big sports fan who loved cheering his children on at sporting events.

Raymond R. Steinfeld, Jr., 50, of Woodbury died Friday, October 28, 2011, at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Betty (Dejo) Steinfeld.

Steinfeld was born March 13, 1961, in Waterbury, to Raymond R. Steinfeld, Sr., and the late Patricia (Day) Steinfeld. He attended Holy Cross High School, where he was a member of the 1978 All-NVL football team, and Central Connecticut State University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

He worked as an assistant controller for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New York in Greenwich and as a controller for Diageo in Stamford. He also owned AIA-Nutmeg Promotions, a promotional products company.

Before his death he had been working as a partner at Frontier Brands, Inc., a wine and spirits distributor.

A resident of Woodbury for more than 15 years, Steinfeld was a communicant of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, where he was a member of the men’s club.

He belonged to the Southbury Chamber of Commerce and was a volunteer coach with Woodbury Baseball and Softball. He also coached basketball for the Woodbury Parks and Recreation Department, was a United States Swimming official and volunteered at the annual Holy Cross golf tournament.

Steinfeld enjoyed playing softball, fishing and golfing and was especially proud this year to have won the Frank Santoro Memorial Golf Tournament, which he participated in from 1983 to 2011. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He loved cheering for his children during their sporting events and will be remembered as their number one fan and a wonderful father.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Colby Tanner Steinfeld and three daughters, Ashley Veronica Steinfeld, Amanda Brooke Steinfeld and Brittany Jordan Steinfeld, all of Woodbury.

He also leaves three brothers, Kenneth (Rita) Steinfeld of Prospect, James (Christine) Steinfeld of Wolcott, and Michael (Kerry) Steinfeld of Woodbridge and two sisters, Patricia (Stephen) Monnerat and Laurie Herbort and her late husband Stephen, all of Wolcott.

Among his extended family, he also leaves his in-laws Pablo and Maria Dejo as well as many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Services: A memorial mass will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Church of the Nativity, 48 East St., Bethlehem.

Visitation: There are no calling hours.
