Obituary: Walter G. Blinstrubas, 83, of Waterbury

Walter G. Blinstrubas, 83, of Waterbury, died peacefully on Tuesday April 24, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Doris C. (Boucher) Blinstrubas.

Blinstrubas was born on July 28, 1928, in Waterbury, the son of the late Joseph A. and Katherine (Cepulis) Blinstrubas. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and attended Post Business College for two years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952.

After Blinstrubas was drafted, he spent one year stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., he married his sweetheart, Doris, and brought her back to Fort Sill until his tour of duty ended.

Blinstrubas retired from his civilian career in management at /Allied Bendix after 39 dedicated years of service.

Although his love for his family was his number one priority, Blinstrubas was also proud of the Knights of Lithuania and was a 4th Degree Knight. He also enjoyed his yearly fishing trip to Lake Champlain with his four brothers, as well as teaching his five daughters and grandchildren how to fish on the lake during their summer vacations there.

Blinstrubas was a big sports enthusiast and a Boston Red Sox fan. He was also an avid golfer, bowled with the K of L Bowling League and played volleyball weekly with a group of his friends. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending the winter months in the Florida sunshine for the past 20 years.

In addition to his wife, Doris, of 60 years, Blinstrubas is survived by his four daughters, Janet Williams and her husband, Brian, of Oxford; Nancy Dennis and her husband, Joseph, of Wolcott; Mary Blinstrubas of Newtown and Judith Vecchitto of Waterbury; his brother Edmund Blinstrubas and his wife, Joyce, of Prospect and sister-in-law, Edith Blinstrubas of Fla.; four grandchildren, Gina Vecchitto, Patrick and Shawn Williams and Tony Blinstrubas; his granddaughter-in-law, Synee Vecchitto, of Maryland; and his four great-grandchildren, Jalen, Reece and Francine Vecchitto, and Aubrey Dion. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Rafael, Joseph, and John Blinstrubas, his beloved daughter Cathy J. Blinstrubas and cherished grandson, Francis R. Vecchitto, III.

Military Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, from Chase Parkway Memorial the Albini Family Funeral Home to St. Leo the Great Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery.
