One Woodbury School to Get Security Improvements Done

Woodbury taxpayers will pay for two-thirds the cost of the work; the state will pick up the remaining cost of the school security work.

Woodbury is one of the town's that will be receiving state funding to enhance security infrastructure at one of its schools. Woodbury will be spending about $3,800 for the work; the state will be picking up the remainder - about $2,000.

Governor Dannel Malloy Friday announced the grants which total $10 million that will be used for 182 public and private school in 51 towns across the state. The funds were approved under the School Security Grant Program that was created in 2013 as part of a broad legislative package focusing on gun violence prevention, mental health and school security issues.

To date the state has made $53 million available to over 1,200 schools in three separate rounds of funding.

"We have a moral obligation to provide a safe learning environment for out students," Malloy said.
