Opinion: Butterly Manages Woodbury In Transparent Manner

"Woodbury needs to continue moving forward," this letter to the editor author writes.

To the Editor:

Woodbury has made a lot of progress in the past two years. Progress comes from working with others to identify opportunities to benefit our community. Woodbury has received a 1.7 million dollar federal grant for road repair and a 1.5 million dollar state grant for the purchase of Woodbury Reservoir. We received over $300,000 in LOCIP funds for town improvements that had accumulated for several years as paperwork had not been submitted. These are some examples of First Selectman Butterly working with state & local officials; town employees, committees and residents during the past two years for Woodbury.

First Selectman Butterly, with input from staff, replaced crumbling stairs from the Library to the Boyd Building with a walkway improving accessibility. He received state approval to move the pedestrian crossing at Old Town Hall. This will improve access and make it safer for pedestrians and those with physical challenges. The work will be done by the town next spring.

First Selectman Butterly recognizes the collective knowledge and strength of town employees. They have a key role in Woodbury’s success. Under his leadership, town employees along with community experts installed an up-to-date communication network. The new phone system improved customer service. A new website was developed to provide visitors and the community with more information. It’s now maintained by employees allowing for current updates. Fall Fest is their most recent accomplishment.

Volunteers are important. First Selectman Butterly works with Boards, Committees and Commissions to help them achieve goals. He works most closely with the Board of Finance to continue fiscal restraint and accountability.
