Oxford Drowning Victim's Sister Answered 911 Emergency Call

April Brooks, dispatcher at the Northwest Connecticut Safety Communications Center, initially did not know it was her brother, Austin, who had drowned.

In an unusual coincidence, the dispatcher who received the 911 call for Saturday, June 30, was the victim’s sister.

According to an article by the Connecticut Post, April Brooks, a dispatcher at the Northwest Connecticut Safety Communication Center in Prospect, began to suspect that the victim was her brother, Austin “DJ” Brooks III, when the first Oxford firefighters on the scene reported that they were attempting to revive a 24-year-old man who had had a seizure and fell out of a canoe.
