Police Blotter: Fight at PHS Leads to Multiple Charges

Physical altercation at Pomperaug leads to charges for two students; Woodbury man charged with DUI.

 

Two Pomperaug High School students engaged in a verbal argument that became physical and led to multiple charges Tuesday, March 27 at 9:30 a.m.

According to police reports, the fight took place in a school hallway and caused a disruption to surrounding classrooms. The fight escalated when one student, a youthful offender, struck the other, Joseph Sufin, 18, of 41 Russell Rd. in Southbury.

Both Sufin and the youthful offender were charged with breach of peace. Both were released on $500 non-surety bond and are scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on April 4.

Michael Sumple, 40, of 184 Orchard Ave. in Woodbury, was charged with DUI on Monday, March 26 at approximately 11:37 p.m. after police observed him driving erratically, weaving and crossing the centerline on Old Waterbury Road in Southbury.

Sumple was released on $750 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on April 4.
