Police Chase Ends with Crash Into Woodside Heights

Waterbury man arrested after crashing allegedly stolen vehicle into senior housing development in Middlebury.

At around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, a vehicle being pursued by state and Waterbury police got off exit 17 of 84 East and turned onto Woodside Ave. in Middlebury.

The vehicle drove up Woodside Ave. and struck another vehicle parked at Woodside Heights Senior Housing (500 Woodside Ave.) before losing control and crashing into the building.

The driver was identified as Juan Nieves, 18, of Spring Brook Road, Waterbury, and charged with operating with a suspended license, evading responsibility and reckless driving by Middlebury police.

The 2010 Mercedes Benz that Nieves was driving was reported stolen earlier from West Main Street in Waterbury. State and Waterbury police are expected to add additional criminal charges.

According to police reports, Nieves allegedly resisted arrest after the accident and was Tasered by state police.
