Police Investigate: Bathroom Break Leads to Arrest; Case of Missing Meds

Missing medication at a nursing home and a small child left unattended in a vehicle prompted police investigations.

Officer Edward Demers was called to at 10:37 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, to investigate medications gone missing, according to a police report from Sgt. John Desmarais of the .

After several interviews and after processing the scene for physical evidence, Demers charged Angela Cascone, 27, of 77 Draher St., Waterbury with the following charges:

  • Alleged burglary in the third degree
  • Alleged tampering with evidence
  • Alleged illegal possession of controlled substances
  • Alleged larceny in the sixth degree

Cascone is accused of allegedly breaking into a medication box the night before and stealing the prescription medications for the elderly clients who go to Senior Care Center, according to police.

Police reported that Cascone was a nighttime cleaning person and not directly employed by Senior Care Center.

Cascone was released on a $1, 500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

 

Bathroom Breaks Leads to Arrest

At approximately 12:26 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, Officer Edward Demers and Officer Anthony Kalvaitis arrested Lea Cruz, 27, of 32 Cook Rd., Prospect, for allegedly leaving a child younger than 12 unsupervised in a motor vehicle.

Police reported that Cruz allegedly left her small child unattended in a parked vehicle at the Crossroads at Middlebury East, 850 Straits Turnpike, for more than 20 minutes while she reportedly went into the building to use the bathroom.

A complainant witnessed the baby unattended in the vehicle and called 911.

Cruz was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on Wednesday, Dec. 14. The Connecticut Department of Children and Families were notified of the police investigation.
