Pomperaug Baseball Advances to Quarters, Softball Falls
PHS baseball edges Newtown to advance to quarterfinals, PHS softball concludes strong season.
After wins in the opening round of their state tournaments Tuesday Pomperaug baseball and softball were back at it Wednesday, with one team moving on and the other sent packing.
#2 Pomperaug baseball (19-3) edged past #15 Newtown in a hard fought pitchers duel 2-1. The Panthers now advance to the state quarterfinals to square of with #7 Southington on Saturday at 3:30 at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury.
#17 Pomperaug softball was outclassed by the ‘LL’ top seeded Westhill Vikings in a 13-1 showing. PHS finishes their season 13-9.
