Pomperaug High School Student Among 2,500 National Merit Scholarship Recipients for 2016

The Region 15 student was selected from among 15,000 finalists.

SOUTHBURY, CT - Hannah C. Beilinson of Pomperaug High School in Southbury is among 2,500 students to win the prestigious 2016 National Merit Scholarship.

Beilinson, a Southbury resident, has not yet decided what she intends to major in while at college, according to the academic excellence organization. Pomperaug High is located in Connecticut's Regional School District 15, which includes Middlebury.

Winning students were chosen from a pool of 15,000 finalists, and were judged on their academic records, level of the advanced classes they took, standardized test scores and community involvement.

Applicants were required to write an essay according to the National Merit Scholarship's website. Winners were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors.
