Region 15 Students Raise Money For Animal Shelters
The contest raised $590 for Animals for Life, and a cart of food and toys was collected for the Meriden Humane Society and BCRA.

From LMES: Long Meadow Elementary School (LMES) recently held their 14th annual “Teacher’s Pet” Contest, raising $590 for Animals for Life. In addition, a cart full of pet food, toys and treats were collected for the Meriden Humane Society and also for Brass City Rescue Alliance (BCRA), which has a shelter at the Middlebury Transfer Station. At the school’s “Leopard’s Pride” assembly on Friday, April 13th , Sonia LeFrancois, president of Animals for Life (AFL), came to the school to talk about AFL and accept the donation. Louann Hart, who volunteers at the Meriden Humane Society, and her rescue dog, “Lola” attended and accepted a cart full of pet food, toys and treats for the Meriden shelter. In addition, a large box of dog food and toys was delivered to BCRA.
The contest, organized by Carol Walsh, a secretary at LMES, has raised money for Animals for Life every year since 2005. To date the school has raised a total of $7,657. Staff members paid $5.00 to enter pictures of their pets, and students and staff then filled out a ballot for .50 cents and voted for their favorite pet in each of five categories: Cutest, Best Outfit, Funniest Expression, Best Smile, and Prettiest Kitty.
