Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Woodbury [UPDATE]

Read on for when the snow is forecasted to start in Middlebury and Woodbury.

New year, new weather report and it’s a cold one! Saturday, Jan. 3, will bring clouds and cold temperatures during the day.

A winter weather advisory for Litchfield County is in effect from 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday.

Meteorologist Gil Simmons predicts snow will start to fall between 3 and 5 p.m. Saturday, before we see a changeover to a possible wintry mix and then rain. Most towns are calling for a range of one to three inches of snow/ice accumulation, according to the National Weather Service.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the mix is slated to switch to rain as temperatures warm up. Sunday’s forecast is calling for warmth (relatively speaking) and wind.

Sunday’s temperatures will be in the low to mid-50s range for much of the state, the National Weather Service reports.

Temperatures will plummet as the day goes on, with the NWS forecasting a low of 30 degrees Sunday night. Monday is slated to be sunny, with a high temperature in the mid-30s.

Middlebury Forecast from NWS

  • Saturday: Snow likely before 4 p.m., then snow and sleet. High near 34. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Calm wind becoming east 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch possible.
  • Saturday Night: Rain, snow, and sleet, becoming all rain after 7 p.m. Some thunder is also possible. Temperature falling to near 33 by 9 p.m., then rising to around 40 during the remainder of the night. East wind 6 to 8 mph becoming south after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Sunday: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before noon, then a chance of rain and thunderstorms after noon. High near 53. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Sunday Night: A chance of rain, mainly before 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. West wind 10 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Woodbury Forecast from NWS

  • Saturday: Snow, mainly after 4 p.m. High near 36. Calm wind becoming east 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Saturday Night: Rain and snow, becoming all rain after 7 p.m. Low around 36. East wind 7 to 10 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
  • Sunday: Showers likely, mainly before 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 52. Southwest wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Sunday Night: A slight chance of rain showers before 3 a.m, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Southwest wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
