String of Residential Burglaries Continue in Middlebury
Home broken into on Foster Street in Middlebury

The third residential burglary in just under six weeks was reported in Middlebury Wednesday.
The burglary took place on Foster Street and was reported at approximately 4:34 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, according to Lt. Richard A. Wildman of the Middlebury Police Department.
The homeowner said he had been away from his residence for about 48 hours and when he arrived home Wednesday afternoon he discovered a door was smashed in and a flat screen television was missing. Other electronics were taken from the residence, including a collection of CD’s.
Police said glass panes had been broken on a rear patio door and that the perpetrators unlocked the door to gain access. Two other doors had evidence that indicated attempted entry, however due to deadbolts the perpetrators were unable to get in.
The several attempts led Wildman to believe the perpetrators were determined to get into this residence, which like the other homes burglarized, is secluded and not visible from the road.
This is the third residential burglary in the past six weeks in Middlebury, and police say all occurrences have had the same M.O. The last burglary occurred just under two weeks ago on Park Road Ext.
Wildman urges residents to call police if they see suspicious vehicles or people in their neighborhood. He said in most burglaries the perpetrators will usually knock on the door to see if anyone is home. If someone answers the door, the perpetrators usually will say they are lost or looking for yard work. Wildman said the department has been working with neighboring police departments and following up on leads.
