Three Rivers Park Reopened

The park was closed after a heavy rainstorm on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Three Rivers Park has been reopened, First Selectman Gerald D. Stomski announced in a Friday, Sept. 16, press release.

He urged park visitors to be careful near the river and its stream banks.

"There is a great deal of debris from the storms, fallen trees and unstable stream banks," said Stomski.

Town officials, representatives from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the United States Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service reviewed emergency clean-up of the Pomperaug River, its banks and adjoining flood plain areas on Friday, Sept. 16.

The emergency clean-up of materials deposited from Tropical Storm Irene and the storm that followed will continue under the supervision of the DEEP and the NRCS, said Stomski.
