Unusual Object Brought to the Middlebury Police Department
Sometimes cleaning houses leads to unusual finds.
A hand grenade was brought to the Middlebury Police Department at approximately 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, according to a Tuesday, Sept. 13 press release from Lt. Richard A. Wildman.
A person was cleaning out the home that belonged to their deceased father when they came across a hand grenade, Lt. Wildman said.
The grenade, thought to be inert by the family, was taken by the Middlebury Police Department. The grenade seemed to have modifications to it, he said in the press release.

The spoon release for the grenade was taped for added safety. The grenade type is a 1970 Vietnam Era-style.
The grenade was stored in safe outside storage and turned over to the state Police Emergency Services Unit for disposal this afternoon, Lt. Wildman said. No further police action is anticipated.
