CTAW was founded in 2013 in response to the community's expressed desire for quality, live theatre. Since its inception in 2013, they have produced 27 productions, performed 139 shows and upon completing their most recent show, Cry It Out, they have reached a total audience of 10,000.
Starting in 2013 as an all-volunteer, non-profit, and self-supporting program of the Woodbury Parks and Recreation Department, CTAW established a home in one of Woodbury's most distinguished buildings: The Historic Old Town Hall, at 5 Mountain Rd, Woodbury, CT. In July 2018, after 5 successful years with the Woodbury Parks and Recreation Department, the Community Theatre at Woodbury became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Historic Old Town Hall continues to be CTAW's home, where they are able to offer quality performances to the local community.
In addition to their artistic contributions to the community, CTAW has supported the local food bank with $8,500 in donations, scholarships for area students totaling $7,100, and additional support for local and national charities over time.
