William Petit Offers Feedback on the Next Victim Advocate Position

A hearing was held in Meriden Monday night.

William Petit and others traveled to Meriden Monday night to offer their thoughts on the qualities they are looking for in the state’s next victim advocate.

The meeting was held at the Meriden Public Library and was called by Leonard Suzio

Though just a few people spoke everyone agreed they want a victim advocate who is empathetic and strong-willed, the Meriden Record Journal reports.

Petit, whose wife and two daughters were killed in a 2007 home invasion in Cheshire, said the Office of the Victim Advocate was a great help to him during the tragedy, the Record Journal reports.

Petit said the next victim advocate needs to be “strong-minded and very independent,” the Record Journal reports.

In the end Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will make the appointment, which must be approved by the General Assembly.
