Woodbury Budget Increasing Significantly But There Is Good News

Who knew that a significant budget increase could also include good news.

WOODBURY, CT — There's a pretty unique situation going on with the town's budget proposal and projected tax rate for next year. The budget is expected to increase by nearly 10 percent but the tax rate will decrease, the Republican-American reports.

How is this possible? Local officials budgeted for its expected share for the teachers pension fund but the contribution wasn't necessary and the town saved $422,000, and Woodbury also received an additional $300,000 payment from Region 14, the Rep-Am reports.

The average taxpayer would see a savings of about $60 if the proposed budget is approved at a referendum in early June. The budget process is not yet over and other changes could still be made.
