Woodbury Fire Marshall Urges Fire Safety During Spring Cleans

There are DEP and Town Ordinance regulations to follow in burning brush

With spring clean up fever in the air, Woodbury Fire Chief and Fire Marshall Janet Morgan urges all residents to use caution and remember regulations to prevent possible fires.

“It's time to spruce up your yards and that means many homeowners will want to burn the small twigs, branches and brush on their property,” said Morgan.

If residents are planning on burning brush there are DEP regulations and a Town Ordinance that must be followed.  Morgan says a few of the basic regulations everyone should know are, you must obtain a permit, you must be on residential property where you reside, only brush less than 3” in diameter can be burned, the burn index must be moderate or lower and you may only burn between the hours of 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Morgan stressed that these are just a few of the requirements and that interested people should read the full rules and regulation of the “Open Burning Permit”.

If residents have any questions about the process or would like to request a permit, calls should be directed to the Fire Marshal's office Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at (203-263-3120).

Those planning to burn on Saturdays need to request the permit during the week, as WVFD do not have regular office hours on Saturday but do come out and issue permits.
