Woodbury Firefighters Burn Xmas Trees at Fire Safety and Clean-up Demo
Public Event Repeatedly Delayed by Poor Weather or High Number of Call-Outs for Firefighters

WOODBURY – Woodbury Firefighters burned just over 100 Christmas trees in a public, fire-safety and clean-up demo at day’s end Saturday March 28th, 2026. “We had to wait 70 days from the initial date in mid-January,” said Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan. “The repeated delays were because of either poor weekend weather or the high number of call-outs averaging more than two a day.” A handful of spectators, far below the usual number of about 150 townspeople, watched as the pyre burned under the control of the volunteer firefighters. The National Fire Protection Association estimates that there are nearly 150 home fires caused by Christmas trees annually across the country. ###
