WOODBURY – Woodbury Volunteer Firefighters inspected and formally voted to accept the new Rescue 3 Firetruck at a special department meeting July 15th. The $830,000 vehicle powered by a 450 horsepower diesel replaces a 30-year old truck. After the unanimous approval, twenty firefighters, including two on top of the vehicle, lined up for a group photo. Standing five persons from left is Chief Fire Engineer Don Harris who oversaw the purchase process. Kneeling in front from left is Firefighter Steve Anctil with Fire Chief Janet Morgan and Fire Capt Steve Cunningham. The truck was fitted with state-of-the art equipment by Gowans-Knight in Watertown, a 75-year-old fire apparatus company. Pullout shelves contain everything needed in rescue operations such as a 10,000-lb capacity portable winch that can be attached to the truck on any side to special hazmat (hazardous material) suits that protect firefighters dealing with dangerous biological or chemical emergencies. The old truck will be sold via sealed bid later. Says Chief Janet B. Morgan, “We think small departments with limited budgets will be interested in an older, well-maintained rescue truck.” ###
