Woodbury Guitar Studio, A Haven for Enriching Musical Talent
Woodbury Guitar Studio has been training area guitarists for seven years.
Phil Forbes and Chris ‘Vic’ Vicari have been close friends for over thirty years and have always shared a passion for rock and roll. It was out of the nourishment of their interests and talents, they created the Woodbury Guitar Studio seven years ago.
Forbes started playing guitar when he was 15 years old, and soon after began to teach. He studied under the tutelage of world-renowned classic jazz guitarist, Sal Salvador, who learned from jazz legends such as Johnny Smith and Chuck Wayne. Forbes explained that Sal, “taught me about guitar, but he also taught me about the business of guitar. Write your own books. Why use somebody else’s? So, I picked up a pen and I’ve written three books.”
Vic is a Queens, New York native who began playing drums at age 10. For eight years he relentlessly honed in on his craft through practice and playing shows. For most of this time he taught himself how to play through his musical instincts and influences. He then realized that he had an affinity for the guitar. At first, he just dabbled in playing guitar, but through his lasting friendship and collaboration with Forbes, began to take his playing more seriously. Vic is living proof that music is embedded in the soul. He spent some time away from making music, but soon found himself drawing back to what he loved, as so many artists do.
Woodbury Guitar Studio specializes in delivering the highest quality of musical education in a friendly and professional learning environment. The studio houses multiple practice rooms, an impressive guitar room with humidifiers, and also sells, rents, and repairs musical instruments.
Individualized, private lessons are available in guitar, bass, drums, piano, and various brass, wind, and string instruments. Lessons are offered in half hour and hour increments. The studio’s relaxed and warm atmosphere is perpetuated in the curriculum taught. The students are free to choose the style of music they’d like to play, so that they continuously retain their interest in practicing and educating themselves.
A program called ‘Rock Band’ is offered at the studio, which meets multiple times a week and finishes with a recording session of their work. Each class is kept small and caters to a specific age and experience level. This program is available for everyone, not only students who study at the studio.
The students are also given multiple opportunities to perform publicly. You can catch students from the Woodbury Guitar Studio jamming every Friday night at the Open Mic at Woodbury Old Town Hall from 7-10 p.m. It is a free event and makes for a great night of music, fun, and new friends.
