Woodbury Planning Commission to Give Bernard Rosenberg Award to Richard “Rick” Rooney
Rooney takes award for supreme volunteerism.

The Woodbury Planning Commission will honor Richard “Rick” Rooney with its 2010 Bernard Rosenberg Award at its April 6, 2011 meeting. The Award is issued annually to recognize a community volunteer for improving the quality of life in Woodbury through volunteerism.
The Award, named in memory of a former Planning Commission member, will be presented at a public reception prior to the Commission’s regular meeting.
Rick Rooney has been an active volunteer in the community for many years. He served as a volunteer fireman on the Woodbury Fire Department for more than 30 years; as an usher at St. Paul’s Church for about 30 years; and as a volunteer at the St. Paul’s Church Fair for more than 20 years.
The popular “fried dough” booth at the annual fair is attributed to Rick and his wife. Rick served on the Woodbury Lions Club Board of Directors and is a lifetime member of the club. His quiet and constant civic involvement, generously provided through the years, is remembered and appreciated by many Woodbury residents.
Recent past recipients of the Award include Janice Morgan Scruggs, Harold H. Wylie, Bud Neal, Dick Leavenworth, Bob Cowles, Joyce Drakeley and Larry Pond.
