"We got a call on Monday morning," said Corbett. "A teacher's aide had gone into a pre-K classroom before the kids had gotten into the classroom. She saw a gun on the back counter, she secured the gun and brought it to the principal's office."

The Waterbury Police Department was then called and Corbett said the investigation revealed the handgun was validly registered in Willette's name.

Corbett said Willette was working on Sunday, Dec. 4, in the afternoon/evening shift, but was not working on that Monday.

"He [Willette] has a valid permit," said Corbett. "He had gone somewhere before going to work Sunday and had brought the gun with him."

Corbett said that Willette reportedly put the gun on the counter, as it was uncomfortable while he was working at the school.

Willette was arrested for reckless endangerment and unlawful storage of a firearm, said Corbett. After a Tuesday, Dec. 6, Waterbury Superior Court date, Corbett said Willette was released on $10,000 bond.

Update: Corbett said the school placed Willette on administrative leave and is conducting an internal investigation.
