Woodbury Residents to Honor Firefighters May 4th & 5th

Free Flame Red Lightbulbs at Fire HQ from April 29th

In commemoration of International Firefighter' Day May 4th and 5th, the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department asks town residents to join in honoring firefighters by putting on a red porchlight or displaying something in flame red May 4 th and 5 th . “It’s a thank you to all of the firefighters who are on the front lines every day, keeping everyone safe,” said Chief Janet B. Morgan announcing the initiative.

Red lightbulbs donated by Ace Hardware of Woodbury will be available for free pickup from Wednesday April 29 th at fire department headquarters 25 Quassuk Rd. The bulbs normally retail at $2 each. “It’s theleast we can do to show appreciation for courage and commitment,” says owner Chris Wolf, a former volunteer fire fighter himself.
Residents who want the red lightbulb can drive to the front of the building and honk between 9a and 3p starting the 29th, Chief Morgan said. Someone will bring out the light and place it on the step for pickup. However, even a red heart or a red piece of paper placed in a front window will do, she said.
Until Ace Hardware donated the lightbulbs, the town had planned to purchase them. Barbara Perkinson, first selectman, says she authorized fire department funding for the occasion. But it turned out not tobe necessary, she said adding, “We really do appreciate Mr. Wolf offering to provide the lightbulbs at no cost to us. We hope everyone will want to accept his kind gift and light up their homes as a means ofthanking the town’s firefighters.”
Chief Morgan notes, “Nearly everyone knows a firefighter. They're our family, friends, and co-workers. They respond to a stranger's call for help without hesitation and serve with pride and compassion. Thisis a way to say thank-you to firefighters for all that they do to keep our communities safe.” She praised the Ace Hardware owner too saying: “What a great hometown storeowner in these tough times.”
