Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department Responded to Record Number of Calls in March

53 of 72 calls came during early month flooding

The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department responded to a record number of calls, 72, during the month of March.

According to Fire Marshall Janet Morgan, the average call volume for March is around 26 calls. The increase in call volume was due to the flooding that occurred in the region March 6 – 7.

During that 48-hour period WVFD firefighters responded to a single day record 53 water related emergencies that were a direct result of the flooding.

“The firefighters used six trash pumps and two – 250gpm portable pumps to pump out basements,” said Morgan. “They logged over 80 hours on the pumps and over 500 man hours. It was a busy few days for the department.”

The remainder of the March calls were filled with a possible chimney fire, nine rescue or ambulance assistance, three hazardous conditions (no fire), one good intent call and five false alarms.
