Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department fire calls for February 18-20.

The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department received the following calls this weekend, February 18-20. Woodbury Fire Chief and Fire Marshall Janet Morgan documented the fire calls.

WVFD was dispatched to a known location for a commercial fire alarm sounding.  First firefighter on scene found it to be from burnt food.  Car 8 responded to confirm while all units were held in quarters and then released upon confirmation.

Woodbury Ski Area

WVFD was called on again to help out the WAA at the Woodbury Ski area.  Car 2 and Car 4 went directly to the scene to assess the situation and found the patient had been removed from the hill.  WVFD was canceled.


Roxbury - Stand by - Working Structure Fire

WVFD was called to the town of Roxbury just before lunch.  Roxbury requested a tanker and engine to back fill their station while they were working a structure fire on the New Milford side off town.

Roxbury gained control of the fire quickly and the Woodbury firefighter were home within an hour or so.


High winds brings a wires down call

WVFD was dispatched to a call for long hanging wires on Judson Ave mid morning.  A branch had broken off a tree during the high winds and was lying on the powers lines causing some concerns.

WVFD found no fire, no wires in the road way but there was a concern for traffic.  Since the police department handles traffic emergencies the scene was turned over to them.


WVFD spends over night hours in Southbury

Woodbury sent Engine 5 to help out a mutual aid town early this morning.  A multi-business occupancy on Main Street was on fire.

Initially Woodbury went to the Center station to cover the town in case of another call but they ended up at the scene assisting in suppression.

Around 7 a.m. they returned to Southbury's Center station to be a first due while Southbury put their trucks back in order.

The building was a total loss and 14 business owners are now trying to come to terms with what they lost.

WVFD was released at 8:45am and returned to Woodbury.  Those firefighters will now be heading off to their regular jobs.
