Two Killed In Weekend Car Crash In Felton; Victims Identified

FELTON, DE — Delaware State Police have identified two people killed in a car crash near Felton on Sunday night.

Cheryl Hagens-Brandl, 36, of Magnolia, and Christopher A. Tunis, 18, of Milford, died after their vehicles collided head-on while driving on Irish Hill Road, according to a release from Delaware State Police.

Just after 6 p.m. Sunday, police said Hagens-Brandl was driving a 2007 Hyundai Accent and traveling eastbound on Irish Hill Road. At the same time, Tunis was driving westbound in a 2010 Toyota Corolla.

According to police, Tunis was driving behind a large truck before he entered the eastbound lane to legally pass the vehicle, pulling directly into Hagens-Brandl's path.

Police said both drivers attempted to avoid a crash by driving off the south edge of the roadway; however, both cars ultimately struck each other head-on.

Hagens-Brandl was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. A passenger in her vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Tunis was taken to an area hospital where he later died, police said. Two passengers in his vehicle were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt, according to police.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
