Christiana High School Team Wins Fourth TechRise Student Challenge

Christiana High School students recently took part in NASA's Fourth TechRise Challenge

Christiana High School students recently took part in NASA’s Fourth TechRise Challenge, a nationwide competition designed to inspire 6th to 12th graders in the fields of technology, science, and space exploration. Out of 720 design experiment submissions from across the country that met the challenge criteria, only 60 teams were chosen as winners. Among them was our incredible team from Christiana High School, proudly representing Christina School District and Delaware.

Led by CHS Science teacher, George Murray, Sr., CHS students Farid Yusuf, Adriana Waybright, Angel Millan-Cruz, Rahman Tokhi, Fionn Christensen, Son Nguyen, Mel Brownlee, Jasmine Johnson, Ryan Dang, Tyler Le, Shea McClain, Jayden Morales and Daniel Okagbare submitted the following idea: Measuring the temperature gradient across “SPHERES.” As a winning team, CHS has earned a prize package to support their experiment's construction which includes $1,500 in funding, a flight box for their project, a designated spot to test their experiment on a NASA-sponsored flight, and technical guidance from Future Engineers' advisors throughout the build phase.
This summer, CHS’s experiment will fly to the edge of space to measure how sound waves travel through the atmosphere at different altitudes and air pressures. The NASA balloon, carrying Christiana’s experiment as well as the other 59 winning experiments, will ascend to 70,000-95,000 feet and stay aloft for 4-8 hours.
Congratulations to Mr. Murray and our Viking scholars!
