The Christina School District proudly welcomed more than 150 new employees during its annual New Hire Orientation, held August 19- 21. New staff included teachers, paraprofessionals, secretaries, custodians, specialists, and other team members who play a vital role in supporting Christina students.
Day One: A Warm Christina Welcome
The first day began with a continental breakfast and welcome activities designed to build connections and ease first-day nerves. In the “Welcome to Christina” session, Dr. Joyner introduced the mission and values that guide the work of serving students and families.
Staff received their devices during Technology Distribution and engaged in an Instructional Technology Overview to get hands-on support with key platforms. After lunch, new hires participated in Restorative Practices training led by Akoben, reinforcing the district’s commitment to creating inclusive, respectful, and supportive school environments. The day closed with a Human Resources, Payroll/Benefits session covering essential employment information.
Day Two: Collaboration and Professional Learning
Over 100 teachers and specialists returned for a full day of targeted professional learning. The morning began with the Christina Education Association (CEA), where new educators learned about the union’s role in supporting and advocating for teachers.
Participants then rotated through four classroom-based learning sessions, designed to introduce instructional practices, curriculum resources, and strategies for student success. These sessions encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and peer connection—equipping new teachers with tools and confidence as they prepare for their classrooms.
