Wilmington’s Public Works Department has compiled the attached list of streets on which construction or, maintenance will occur over the next week by the City itself, or by either DelDOT, Delmarva Power, or private contractors. The attached information is for Monday, September 6 through Friday, September 1, 2021. 0

The City’s website contains a real-time map that is updated daily so you can follow any changes to the weekly schedule caused by weather or other construction-related delays. Public Works Commissioner Kelly Williams said every effort is made to compile the most accurate list each week of street projects that could affect your travel in the City the following week. She cautioned, however, that the time frames for the listed projects could be altered if they are delayed due to factors such as the weather.

Of special note this weekend is Open Streets: Delaware Avenue, which will take place tomorrow, Saturday September 18, from 9 a.m. till 12 p.m. Sponsored by Open Streets Wilmington, this community event will require the closing of the length of Delaware Avenue from North Scott Street to Brinckle Avenue starting at 8 a.m. Delaware Avenue will reopen to vehicular traffic at 1 p.m. For those planning to attend this FREE, family friendly event, there are several free parking lots available in Rockford Park. There is also free and unrestricted on-street parking in the neighborhoods immediately adjacent to Rockford Park. Street parking in the Trolley Square neighborhood is typically time restricted and may be metered.

Also, on March 1 the State of Delaware’s Department of Transportation (DelDOT) began a two-year reconstruction project to refurbish and resurface a portion of Interstate 95 that runs through the City of Wilmington. Open Streets: Delaware Avenue

DelDOT also reminds motorists of ongoing nightwork taking place along the I-95 Wilmington Viaduct for the next several weeks. Kiewit Construction is conducting “hydro-demolition” of the existing concrete roadway surface between the hours of 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. along the I-95 Viaduct. This work consists of using a water-blasting technique to remove the top few inches of existing concrete and then using a vacuum truck to remove the debris in preparation for a new concrete overlay. The work is being scheduled at night to increase productivity and to maintain the overall project schedule.

The work to be performed in Sections 2 and 3 began Thursday, September 16 and is scheduled to continue until Thursday, September 30, 2021. This is a moving operation heading from north to south in each section, so it will not be continuously located in any single area.
