Spring DE High School Sports Recaps

5-1-18 Baseball

Zach Gelof picked up the 11-1 win on the mound throwing 6 complete innnings. He also reached base safely in all 4 plate appearances including a homerun. Mason Fluharty was 2 for 3 with 4 RBI's and Zach Dale and Luke Johnson each added a homerun and 2 RBI's. Austin Elliott had 2 hits and 2 runs scored as well for the Vikings. Brandon Hatch led the Riders going 2 for 3 at the plate.

Rick Townsend pitched a two hit complete game 6-1 win over Tower Hill. Jack Lauer and Evan Murray had two hits each for the Cardinals; Ken Motley and Kyle Motley each had a single for the Hillers.

Jordan Haddaway tossed 6 innings of 2-hit ball and the Wildcats scratched out 3 runs in the divisional 3-0 victory over Lake Forest.

Michael Carrington earned the 10-0 win for Dover. The Senators scored six runs with two outs in the 2nd inning and were paced offensively by Dom Velazquez, Hiram Davis, and Alec Rodriguez (3RBI) - all who collected two hits. Noah Lanouette belted a homerun for the Senators.

The big offensive day for Smyrna was led by Mason Drummond who contributed 3 hits, 2 runs, and 2 rbi as Smyrna defeated Seaford 18-6. Mike Carrow also had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs. Tyler Harris had a 3 hit day for Seaford.

Milford fought back down 5-0 in the 6th plating 8 runs. Brock Hilligoss tripled home 2 runs to put the Buccaneers up 6-5 and won by a final score 8-5. Caden Oplinger went 2-4 at the plate for MIlford. Chad Reichhold allowed 6 hits and five runs over 6 innings, striking out 9 and only surrendering 1 walk. Bryce Greenly picked up the save in the 7th. Sussex Central was led on the mound by senior Robbie Hollenbeck who pitched great limiting the Bucs to 2 hits while striking out 8 and walking one in five innings. Vonny Toppin led the Knights offense going 3-4 with a triple . Blaine Hansen had two hits and Ethan Watkinson hit a 3 run home run for Sussex Central.

Laurel's Trace Hitchens pitched 5 strong innings for the Bulldogs, allowing just 3 hits, 0 earned runs and 6 K's. Dalton Perdue(2-3,Double) and Holden Deihm(2-2,Double) and 1 RBI each. Tech's Jason Genshaw(3-4, 2RBI) and Grant Lamers(2-5, 2RBI) led the Ravens offensively as they defeated the Buldogs by a 12-2 score.

AI clawed back from a 5-0 deficit to tie the game in the 5th. Wyatt Nelson entered in relief for Friends and shut down the AI offense striking out three. Four WFS pitchers (Pantano, Cauchy, Hudgings, and Nelson) combined for the win. Johnson and Adams hit doubles for AI and Eddy Peguero drove in two. For Friends, Jack Hanson went 3 for 4, Patrick McKenzie went 2 for 2 with a double, and Will Davis plated two with a single as they defeated the Tigers of AI by a 7-5 score.

Brian Downey led the Concord Raiders to a 9-1 victory over Brandywine. Downey pitched a complete game, striking out nine batters and scattering four hits. Downey also added a RBI triple. Johnny Ford had two doubles for Concord as they defeated the Bulldogs of Brandywine 9-1. David Andrews, Mark Cruser, Bobby Rhodunda and Cade Pfander all had two hits for the Raiders. Michael Waterfield and Tyler Elmore both had an extra base hit for Brandywine.

Mitchell Barter threw seven innings of one hit ball and added two hits to pace the panthers to a 4-0 win over Newark Charter. Logan Vivian broke the no hitter with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Luke Wootten gave up one run in 6 innings and struck out 10 to get the 11-1 win on the mound for Middletown. Jake Walls went 3-3 with 2RBI and 2 Runs scored, while Alexander Weber, Blake Harbert, and Luke Wootten each collected multiple 2 hits on the day. Stefan Harroldson went 2-3 with an RBI for Mount Pleasant.

DMA- AJ Blanchard picked up his first win of the season while striking out 6 batters as the Seahawks defeated the Mustangs of MOT Charter 19-1. Colin Smith added a home run. Wyatt Inman, Nic Hertzfeld, James Hahn, Michael Fedorkowicz, Jonathan Hines, Matthew Kohan, and Colin McGarry all had multiple hits for the Seahawks. Brody Sapp had a hit and scored a run for MOT.

Dan Kennan earned his 3rd win of the season by scattering 6 hits and striking out 10 batters to pace the Force of Charter to a 6-4 win over Archmere. Spencer Goff and Sam Devard led the Charter offense with 2 hits. Dylan Craig's 2-run double in the 5th inning gave Charter the lead for good. The Auks offense was led by Jason Roux's 2-run homerun and triples by Mike Dellose and Michael Mallamaci.

Derek Pusey struck out 4 and scattered 3 hits to pick up the complete game RLC 4-1 win. On Senior night, Senior Noah Dahllof led off the bottom of the 5th with a double and later scored the tying run. In the 6th, senior David Willis hit a homer unto add to the Lions lead. For Glasgow, catcher Domenic Joseph hit a solo home run.

Lacrosse 5-1-18

5 goals by Eric Pincus, 2 each by Daniel Manley and River Harper paced the Quakers of Wilmington Friends to a 12-8 victory over the Sanford Warriors. The Warriors were led by 2 goals by Tommy Bloom, Grant Cragg and Timothy Lucky.

5 goals by Daniel Pack and 3 goals by Jack Murray paced the Force of Charter School to a 11-6 win over the Red Wolves of Conrad. The Red Wolves were led by Lawrence Brown with 4 and William Allen with 2.

5 goals by Leo Wright, 2 goals by Brandon Shimko paced the Hodgson Silver Eagles to a 10-8 win over the Green Knights of Mt. Pleasant. The Green Knights were led by Paul Thompson with 3 goals and 2 each by Victor Cox and Matthew Davis.

4 goals by Brandon Hickey, 3 by Theo Stones and Colin Hodgson paced the Hillers of Tower Hill to a 13-11 win over the St. Marks Spartans. The Spartans were led by Tadgh Snook led with 6 goals.

4 goals by Cole Bauer paced the Auks of Archmere to a 19-1 win over the Lions of Red Lion Christian.

4 goals by Jonathan Guzman paced the Eagles of Smyrna to a 8-6 win over the Cavaliers of Middletown.

8 goals by Markus Cook paced the Seahawks of Delaware Military Academy to a 15-8 win over Appoquinimink.

2 goals by Caitlin Logsden paced the Lady Raiders of Concord to an 8-6 win over the Lady Bulldogs of Brandywine. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Grace Ruoff with 5 goals.

4 goals by Annika Sernyak paced the Lady Force of Charter to a 14-3 win over the Lady Redwolves of Conrad.

3 goals by Rachel Gentry, 2 goals by Rachel Henry and Alex Cahill paced the Lady Tigers of AI DuPont to a 8-3. The Lady Jackets were led by Cory Lucatamo with 2 goals.

6 goals by Annie Malatesta, 4 by Taylor Stenz, Landon Reese and 2 by Maggie Podolsky paced the Lady Hillers of Tower Hill to a 21-14 win over the Lady Hornets of Tatnall. The Lady Hornets were led by Lara Jensen with 4 goals, Teryn Singer and Hadley Morgan with 3 goals

Softball 5-1-18

Camryn Thompson, Erin Parker and Jaylah Culver combined to throw 5 solid innings allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 5 to pace the Lady Royals of Delmarva Christian to a 20-1 win over the Lady Mustangs of MOT Charter. Thompson and Siera Jones led the Royals with 4 hits each. Gracie Fetterman, Camryn Breasure, Erin Parker and Ashlyn Stonebraker each contributed 3 hits. Jones and Stonebraker had 4 RBI each. Fetterman had 4 runs scored. Hailey Watlington had 2 hits for MOT Charter and scored their lone run. Caroline Dowd and Bethany Sullivan had one hit each.

Skylar Gallucio had 8 strikeouts and earned her second win of the season to pace St. Elizabeth to a 13-1 win over the Lady Rams of Dickinson. Madison Merrill had 3 hits and Marissa Kegelman added two hits for the Vikings.

Grace Frati went 5 for 5 with four doubles and a triple for Saint Mark’s as they defeated Newark 26-10, Paige Thomas went 4 for 4 and Maddie Saunders went 3 for 3 for the Spartans. Charlotte Rose went 2 for 2 for the Yellow Jackets and Eden Rose reached base 3 times.

Concord's offense was led by Mary Plasmier who went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI's as they defeated the Lady Lions of Red Lion Christian by a 5-4 score. Shannon Edelman and Sarah Raab each went 2 for 4 and Makaila Gordy had 2 RBI's. Sarah Raab pitched a strong 7 innings with a solid defense behind her. Red Lion's Peyton Pusey and Hannah Chambers each had two hits.

Savannah Sheats allowed one hit and one run over five innings, striking out three to pace the Lady Bucs of Caravel to a 11-1 win over the Lady Cavs of Middletown. MaKenzie Brown, Gia Ioannoni, Amanda Stull and Courtney Brobst all had two hits to lead Caravel to victory.Maddison Caldwell went 1 for 2 at the plate for Middletown.

The Tiger's Jessica Oldham had 2 RBIs with a solo homerun and Emily Johns had a double and 3 RBIs to pace AI DuPont to a 10-0 win over the Lady Cougars of Delcastle. Cougar pitcher Catherine Nelson had 5 strikeouts and Nadia Kulikowski had a great defensive play from left field with the throw to second.

Autumn Gentry pitched a complete game 2 hitter while striking out 10 to lead Appoquinimink past Wilmington Charter 3-0. The Jaguars scored all their runs in the 4th inning. Taylor Vitola reached on an error and scored of a double by Mallory Weir. Weir came around to score when Alicia Bruce doubled to leftcenter, one of her 2 hits on the day. Gentry helped her self as she doubled home Bruce to give the Jags a 3-0. Ashlley Steiner and Brooke Dooley singled for the Force.

Conrad's defense was led by pitcher, Graceyn Frost, who recorded 17 strikeouts on the day. Frost also went 4 for 5 at the plate with a triple and a homerun as they defeated the Lady Silver Eagles of Hodgson 9-0. Maddi Tiberi went 3 for 4, and Abby Cushing, Cassidy Dodds, and Sophia Zwack each added two hits for the Red Wolves. Carina Nepi, Brooklynne Johnson, and Amaia Killian each had a hit for Hodgson.

Sussex Central and Milford had an epic Henlopen Conference battle as the Lady Bucs prevailed 14-13. With the Lady Knights leading 13-2 in the top of the 5th the Lady Bucs battled back for a 14-13 victory. Each Milford batter had at least one hit in the game. Macey Meyers had 4 RBI's and Julia Reed made an amazing catch to end a late 7th inning rally from Central. Natalie Oldham and Haley Gray each had 3 hits for the Lady Knights.

Corrin Farris had three hits including a home run and three rbi's. Kylie Kruger had three hits including a double. Megan Perdue had two hits and 2 rbi's and Jakayla Sample had three rbi's. Taylor Wroten pitched a one hitter striking out 8 to pace the Lady Ravens to an 11-0 win over the Lady Bulldogs. Couri Smith had a double for Laurel

Carissa Thorne, Jaylee Backus, Rachel McCleary, Lauren Scott, and Stephanie Horne each managed multiple hits for CR. M. Frederick, H. Rauch, and K. O'Neil- Willey all managed multiple hits for Cape as they won 12-9.
