Baseball, Softball and Lacrosse Stories and Recaps

Baseball 5-9-18

Brendan Davis was 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI’s, while Nate Ridgeway was 3-5 with an RBI and a triple to propel the Eagles over CR 8-5. Mike Carrow and Dylan Leager added 2 RBI’s each, respectively. Andrew Unterreiner threw 5 quality innings while striking out 5, and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. Dylan Leager picked up the win in two(2) innings of relief where he allowed 0 earned runs. Thomas Pornatto threw 5 1/3 innings and allowed 1 earned run while striking out 8 Eagles. Brandon Hatch was 2-3 with an RBI, and Pornatto was 2-4 for the Riders.

Bo Anderson picked up his fourth win of the season, striking out six as Tower Hill defeated Sanford 11-3. Tower Hills' offense was led by Mike Gilbert with three hits and three runs scored. Bo Anderson had a triple and two RBI's while Kyle added two RBI's. Sanford's Ethan Citro had a hit scored two runs.

Andrew Kelly picked up the win for the Knights scattering 2 hits, striking out five and not allowing any runs in four innings pitched to pick up the 5-1 win. Ethan Watkinson, Robbie Hollenbeck and Jake Brewington had 2 hits a piece. Vonny Toppin and Cade Keeler knocked in runs for the Knights. Gabriel Wescott led the Raider's offense going 1-2 with 2 walks and an RBI.

Trace Hitchens threw 6 innings for the Bulldogs while C J Otwell came in for the final 3 innings and the 4-3 Win after 9 innings. Lake was led defensively by 6.1 innings on the mound by Tyler Noell, and offensively with multi hit games by Martin, Rivera, Parker, and Morris. The Bulldogs were led offensively by Devin John and CJ Owell with two hits each, and Conor Ellingsworth with the walk off Sacrifice Fly in the bottom of the 9th.

In a well pitched game, David Erickson got the win going the distance with 13 strikeouts to pace Cape Henlopen to a 13-1 win over the Panthers of Polytech. Jake Gelof opened the scoring with a solo homerun and Austin Elliott followed it with one of his own. Luke Johnson had a pair of hits for the Vikings and scored a run. Alex Pingitore had a hit and a run for Polytech.

Delmar's Jordan Haddaway, Carson Phillips, Chris Richardson, and Ryan Nelson combined to allow just one hit over 6 innings to pace Delmar to a 15-3 win over the Seaford Blue Jays. Dylan Pasta and Gabe Rincon each had 2 hits with Rincon driving in 4. Christian Chandler had an RBI single for Seaford.

Ryan Speed pitched four strong innings for Hodgson and added two hits including a home run in the sixth inning and won 3-2 over the Cavaliers of Middletown. Will Hart pitched the final three innings to pick up the save. Mitchell Jolikko had a double for Middletown.

Gavin Lambert led the Bulldogs with four hits, Calvin Donohue add three hits to pace Brandywine to an 11-1 win over the AI DuPont Tigers.

Claudio Strong At The Plate As Glasgow Defeats Sussex AcademyAndre Claudio went four for four, leading Glasgow to a 13-3 win over Sussex Academy. Claudio singled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the fourth, and tripled in the fifth.The Dragons fired up the offense in the first inning. Claudio singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.Glasgow tallied three runs in the fifth inning. The offensive firepower by the Dragons was led by Claudio and Hakeem Bell, both driving in runs in the inning.Vaughn Park earned his first career victory on the mound for Glasgow. He went four innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four. Dante Claudio threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Claudio recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Dragons.Ryan Bishop took the loss for Sussex Academy. He went three innings, allowing ten runs on nine hits and striking out three.Glasgow racked up 12 hits. Claudio, Bell, Anthony Lozada, and Dominic Joseph each collected multiple hits for the Dragons Varsity. Claudio went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Glasgow in hits.

Joey Davis struck out 5 to earn the 16-2 win for Appoquinimink. Javon Fields was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI, and Krew Bouldin was 3 for 4 with a double, home run, 3 runs scored and 5 RBI. Mason Keene and Brandon Hoffman scored 3 runs each for the Jaguars. Brandon Bradford had 2 hits, and Joseph Bailey and Hunter McVey hit back to back home runs for St. Georges.

Newark Charter's Kevin Buglio 2-2 hit his 5th HR of the season to pace Newark Charter to an 11-1 win over Tatnall. Trey Matthews was 2-2 w 2 rbis and Hayden Harach had 2 rbis to lead the offense. Tatnall's Carl Marvin had two hits.

Hank Wilkerson went 3 for 4 with 3 runs. Alex Palomo had 3 rbis.Hank and Alex combined to pitch a shut out giving up 3 hits and striking out 9 as the Colonials of William Penn defeated the Cougars of Delcastle 8-0.

Max Gioffre was 3-3 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Mike Dellose was 3-3 with 3 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Collin Jensen was 4-4 with 7 RBI's to lead the Auk offense to an 18-0 win over the Mustangs of MOT Charter. Auk pitchers allowed a first inning hit to MOT's Sean Beatson.

Jonathan Hines picked up his 4th win of the season while recording 7 strikeouts to pace Delaware Military Academy to an 8-2 win over Charter. Michael Fedorkowicz, Kevin Williams, and Matthew Marandola all homered for the Seahawks. Daniel Kennan had 7 strikeouts for the Force.

Conrad Takes 5-4 Victory Over Red Lion Christian Academy

Conrad tallied three runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to home runs by Kyle Walker and Marshall Awtry.Jeremy Coleman got the win for Conrad . He lasted two innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while walking zero.X Emberger led things off on the mound for Red Lion Christian Academy. He surrendered five runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out four. Sterling threw one inning in relief.Awtry started the game for Conrad . He surrendered three runs on four hits over six innings, striking out nine and walking oneConrad smacked two home runs on the day. Awtry had a dinger in the third inning. Walker had a homer in the third inning.Awtry went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Conrad in hits.N Hardcastle led Red Lion Christian Academy with two hits in four at bats

Brian Downey threw a complete game leading Concord to a 10-6 victory over Newark. The Raider offense was led by Steve Cornog's two hits and two RBI's. Will Rhodunda added 2-RBI's for Concord. Nick Zegna had three hits and 3-RBI's for Newark.

Carson Fowler struck out ten in a complete game shutout. Fowler had two hits and two runs scored for Mount as they defeated the Rams of Dickinson 4-0. Dustin Tenney and Kaelen Gomes each singled for Dickinson.

Jonathan Baker pitched a complete game allowing only 2 hits and no runs as they defeated the Vikings of St. Elizabeth by a 1-0 score. Connor Murphy singled to RF in the bottom of the first to drive in Jonathan Baker as the only run of the game. Samuel DelCollo went 2 for 2 for Salesianum. Christian Strickland and Craig Small led the offense for St. Elizabeth's each collecting a base hit while Justin Brooks pitched 6 innings allowing only one run.

Lacrosse 5-9-18

2 goals by Brendan Wilson, Kyle Gabriel Ocampo, Nathan Jones and David Archibald paced the Patriots of Newark Charter School to a 10-3 win over the Tigers of AI DuPont.

3 goals by Eric Pincus and Payton McNeill, 2 each by River Harper and Daniel Manley paced the Quakers of Wilmington Friends to a 15-2 win over Wilmington Christian.

6 goals by Zachary Newsome, 3 by Jack Levithan paced the Concord Raiders to a 11-8 win over the Cavaliers of Middletown.

5 goals by Cameron Ostroff and Nicholas Ruggerio, 4 by Jakob Levine and 2 by Walter Wright paced the Bulldogs of Brandywine to a 18-4 win over the Bulldogs of First State Military Academy.

4 goals by Samuel Colligan, 3 each by Lawrence Brown, Nathan Marsh and Jack Kidwell paced the Red Wolves of Conrad School of Science to a 15-7 win over the Lions of Red Lion Christian.

5 goals by Markus Cook, 3 goals by Max Ruggerio paced the Seahawks of Delaware Military Academy to a 12-6 win over Charter School Force. For the Force, Kai Taylor led with 3 and 2 by Michael Lober.

4 goals by Tommy Bloom and Grant Cragg, 3 goals each by Jack Leo and Logan Carpenter paced the Sanford Warriors to a 17-4 win over the St. Elizabeth Vikings.

3 goals by Cody Aro and Connor Garrison, 2 each by Rob Jadick, Hunter Wolhar and Brendan Massey paced the Jaguars of Appoquinimink to a 21-2 win over the Colonials of William Penn.

3 goals by Shelby Graser, 2 by Jillian Morris, Logan Tiedman, Sydney Laumeister and Carlyn Steckline paced the Lady Jaguars of Appoquinimink to a 20-1 win over the Lady Yellowjackets of Newark.

5 goals by Elyse Lamey, 3 by Paige Abbott and Annika Sernyak paced the Lady Force of Charter to a 18-4 win over the Lady Seahawks of Delaware Military Academy.

2 goals by Curryn Henry and Tayla Wibecam paced the Lady Silver Eagles of Hodgson Vo Tech to a 6-3 win over the Lady Tigers of AI DuPont.

5 goals by Katelyn Reilly, 4 goals by Joyce Keller, 2 goals by Joi Mann paced the Lady Cavaliers of Middletown to a 15-8 win over the Raiders of Concord. The Lady Raiders were led by 2 goals each by Paxton Gregg and Bridget Fisher.

6 goals by Teran Singer, 4 goals by Hadley Morgan paced the Lady Hornets of Tatnall to a 19-5 win over the Bulldogs of Brandywine.

6 goals by Annie Malatesta, 3 goals by Taylor Stenz paced the Lady Hillers of Tower Hill to a 15-12 win over the Lady Quakers of Wilmington Friends. The Lady Quakers were led by Anna Erskine with 4.

Softball 5-9-18

Camryn Breasure hit 2 home runs and drove in 5 runs to lead the Royals offensively to a 16-8 win over Holy Grove of MD. Camryn Thompson, Kandice Schlabach, Jordyn DiFava and Ashlyn Stonebraker had multiple hits each. Thompson had 3 RBI, while Stonebraker, Gracie Fetterman and Erin Parker had 2 RBI each.Thompson went the distance in the circle allowing 8 earned runs on 11 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6.

Teagan Bradley and Brianna Snover combined to throw a no hitter with 9 strikeouts against Dickinson as the Lady Knights won 14-0. While the Green Knights produced 12 hits.

Concord's defense was led by Kristin Carter who pitched a 2 hit shutout with 6 strikeouts as they defeated the Lady Yellowjackets of Newark 19-0. The offense was led by Shannon Edelman who had 3 hits including a 2 run homerun and Makaila Gordy who had a 2 run home run and a 2 run triple. Sarah Raab, Devon Kiley, Kristin Carter, and Casey Best all had multiple hits for Concord. Aubrey Smith and Adrienna Berry each had a hit for Newark.

DMA was led by Olivia Farris's 1-hitter and Ali Novotny and Nikki Elliott 2 RBI a piece as they defeated the Lady Force of Charter 6-0 score. Casey Meyer had the hit for Wilm. Charter.

Newark Charter was led by it's 3 seniors in the Patriots final home game of the season and won 14-0. Abby McCann was 3-3 with 2 extra base hits, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Jocelyn Mohler was 2-2 with 2 RBI and Caitlin Pontak was 2-2 at the plate. Pontak allowed only one hit through 5 innings while striking out 12 batters. Rebecca Maiorano had the lone hit for MOT Charter.

Colonial's pitcher Aubree Foster had 3 strikeouts and 4 RBIs. William Penn's Ashley Gallagher and Cree Williams each had triples as they defeated the Lady Cougars of Delcastle 18-3. Delcastle's Allison Moorehead and Nadia Kulikowski both had RBIs. Hannah Sargent-Yeager also had a hit for the Cougars.

Erin Carey scattered 7 hits in the loss to the lady Knights in a solid performance as Sussex Central won 10-3. Kaisey Reed pitched 2 innings of no hit ball while Carly Collins came in relief to start the third. Kailee Abbott had two hits four SC. Woodbridge had four players tally two hits.

Abigail O'Shields pitched a 1 hit shut out with 5 strike outs as Indian River beat Milford 11-0. Julia Bomhardt and Morgan Bomhardt each had 3 hits. Julia Reed had Milford's lone hit.

Brandywine - Miller went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Spencer added 2 hits. Gbemudu struck out 6. Parker & Quillen RBI each. AI-Sydney Stevens had 6 strike outs for the Tigers. Hawrylak, Oldham, and Merritt each had 2 hits a piece and defeated the Bulldogs 5-3.

Middletown Cavaliers managed through a push by Hodgson Vo-Tech in the first inning where Middletown Cavaliers coughed up three runs, but Middletown Cavaliers still won 17-4 on Tuesday. The big inning for Hodgson Vo-Tech came thanks to singles by Morgan Merced and Faith Gordon.Middletown Cavaliers got things started in the first inning. Ali Clemons singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.Middletown Cavaliers pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Carly Setting doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, Lilly Cera-Proulx singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, an error scored one run for Middletown Cavaliers, and an error scored one run for Middletown Cavaliers.Middletown Cavaliers notched six runs in the fifth inning. The offensive onslaught by Middletown Cavaliers was led by Jenna McDermott, Gabby Lano, Becca Buckman, and MacKenzie Hymes, all driving in runs in the frame.Cera-Proulx led the Middletown Cavaliers to victory on the rubber. She surrendered three runs on five hits over three innings, striking out three and walking one. Hymes threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.Celine Wilson took the loss for Hodgson Vo-Tech. She went five innings, allowing 17 runs on 12 hits and striking out one.Middletown Cavaliers had 12 hits in the game. Buckman, Clemons, and Cera-Proulx each managed multiple hits for Middletown Cavaliers. Buckman went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Middletown Cavaliers in hits.Carina Nepi led Hodgson Vo-Tech with two hits in three at bats

For Design Lab Pitcher had 5k's and scored 3 runs, while 1st Baseman Tanner also scored 3 runs.For STMA Pitcher Kara Scarangella Had 16k's and Catcher Popiti had 2 Doubles and a Triple for 3 RBI's and scored 2 runs. Design Lab won 11-10.
