Goldey-Beacom Sees Three Picked for CACC Weekly Awards

Goldey-Beacom saw freshman Breanne Haley (Elkton, MD) picked Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week a fourth time with juniors Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) and Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) making the Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll.

Haley had 36 kills, 20 digs, three blocks and two aces over two matches. She recorded 24 kills, a .447 hitting percentage, nine digs and an ace Saturday in Goldey-Beacom’s 3-0 win over Concordia (NY). Haley preceded that with 12 kills, 11 digs and three blocks Tuesday against Jefferson.

Haley has had an exceptional debut campaign, sitting 14th in the country with 4.32 kills per set, 14th with 4.84 points per set and 18th with 337 kills.

Aghrim ended with two goals and two assists Tuesday in Goldey-Beacom’s 7-0 rout of Holy Family, helping the former clinch a home game in the CACC Tournament.

Aghrim once again is continuing his tear in sitting third in school history with 22 assists, eighth with 15 goals and fifth with 52 points. He also is first in the nation with 13 assists, second with 0.76 assists per game, eighth with 31 points, 22nd with 1.82 points per game and 51st with nine goals.

Bismilla went 2-0 last week with a shutout. He made two saves Tuesday over 45 minutes in a 7-0 win over Holy Family and then had four, extending his school record to 11 shutouts, in a 2-0 triumph Saturday at Caldwell.

Bismilla is first in team history with 11 shutouts, second with a 1.45 GAA and fourth with 183 saves. He also is tied for 23rd in the nation with six shutouts, 41st overall with a 0.91 goals against average and 44th with a .788 save percentage

The Lightning (13-3-1, 9-2-1 CACC) are second in the league, have completed their conference schedule and will host a tournament game next Monday at 2:00 pm against an opponent to be determined. Before that, Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday visits the District of Columbia for a battle against the seventh-ranked team in the NCAA East Region.
