Goldey Beacom Men's Soccer win over Dominican

Goldey-Beacom Men’s Soccer Clinches Third Straight CACC Tournament Berth with 3-0 Triumph Over Dominican (NY)

Freshman Nicholas Ladeira (Johannesburg, South Africa) scored twice just five minutes apart to help Goldey-Beacom clinch its third straight appearance in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 3-0 triumph over Dominican at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning in the first half controlled the match to the tune of a 13-4 shots edge, but could not find the back of the net as the game remained scoreless.

Ladeira finally changed things in the 52nd minute when he received a cross from freshman Alejandro Varela (Cali, Colombia) and tapped it in for a 1-0 Lightning lead.

Ladeira was on the spot again in the 57th minute for his sixth goal of the season and first career brace. Senior Mateus Silvestre (Picarras, Brazil) had his shot outside the box blocked, but Ladeira was there from 25 yards to bang it home for a 2-0 cushion.

In between those goals, GBC junior goalkeeper Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa) made an unbelievable diving save off a header from Fernando Gutierrez in the 54th minute to preserve the one-goal contest.

Callum Flynn (Guildford, England) added the exclamation point, tapping in a cross off a feed from fellow junior Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) for his sixth goal of the year. Aghrim’s 20th career assist puts him in a tie with Dan DiGiacobbe (2001-04) for third in school history.

Silvestre ended with six shots and Bismilla made five saves for the Lightning (11-3-1, 7-2-1 CACC), who move into second place in the conference with two games left.

Sergio Monton attempted four shots and Joshua Stephens made nine saves for the Chargers (2-12, 2-8).

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Holy Family for a 3:30 pm match.
