Goldey-Beacom Volleyball Opens its Season With a 3-1 Victory Over Salem
Goldey-Beacom received exceptional play across the board and began its 2018 campaign with a 3-1 triumph (25-17, 18-25, 25-15, 25-17) over Salem at the Kutztown Classic in Kutztown, PA.
Goldey-Beacom in the first set opened a 10-1 lead en route to closing the stanza with 12 kills and six aces. Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) notched five kills, fellow freshman Julia Syrdahl (Basking Ridge, NJ) recorded four and senior Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) amassed four aces.

The Lightning’s defense in the third set took its turn to shine, limiting the Tigers to a -.083 hitting percentage. Boyce totaled five kills in the set.
The fourth set saw sophomore Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ) own the spotlight with eight kills, helping the Lightning to a 15-3 kills edge in that span with a .278 hitting percentage. Salem hit just .050 during that time.

Syrdahl was awesome in her first collegiate match with 17 kills and Przywara, the 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year, closed with 16. Florence dished 23 assists, freshman Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, NV) amassed 18 and junior Makinsie Balderson (Fairfax, VA) totaled 19 digs for the Lightning (1-0).
Kathryne Mathis had eight kills and 12 digs, Alaina Weltz recorded 11 assists, Amy Turbak notched 15 digs and Cassidy Pluta added 13 for the Tigers (0-1), who were held to a .082 percentage.
Goldey-Beacom on Friday returns to Kutztown University to face New York Tech at 12:30 pm and the host after 5:00 pm.
